Friends of the Cavalier KCS
(aka Ros
Loades, Eleanor Mancey, Pam Lewis, Janet Waller)
We are friends and Cavalier enthusiasts. Our group was formed in 1995, when we decided
we would try to give something back to
this lovely breed, which we have gained so much pleasure from. So, over a luncheon,
'Friends of the Cavalier
KCS' was formed and we
started planning our first Sponsored Dog Walk to raise money for research into
health matters.
We had no perception then that with the help of Cavalier owners,
breeders, friends, and family, we would go on to raise such amazing amounts of money for
the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club's Health Fund.
Our 'committee' originally comprised
Anne East, Eleanor Mancey and myself. Pam Lewis joined the 'Friends' with a
very successful satellite walk in 1997, and more recently Janet Waller joined us, now that
Anne
has other commitments.

The committee of the Cavalier King
Charles Spaniel Club have made donations from the Club's Health Fund to
research projects including in 1997 and 1998 The Animal Health Trust, and in 2000
and 2002 to a new 3 year research project into Mitral Valve Disease being undertaken by Edinburgh University in
conjunction with University College Galway. This research is investigating the mechanisms underlying
disease at cellular level, and collagen production.
All
the money raised by our event in 2002 has been donated to this important research project which is being supported by the Cavalier Club's 'Lub-Dub' Fund.
